Overview

Granite State Manufacturing is a leading contract manufacturer specializing in large, complex, precision machined and welded components for the US Navy. The Weld Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating welding operations to ensure safe and efficient production.

Responsibilities

• Direct welders and support staff; assign work and monitor productivity.
• Manage workflow execution and ensure adherence to production targets.
• Promote GSM values, safety culture, and teamwork.
• Conduct shift start meetings and communicate expectations.
• Coach, mentor, and develop employees to improve skills and performance.
• Ensure welding is performed with approved procedures and instructions.
• Own weld department throughput and schedule adherence.
• Identify and remove production barriers to maintain throughput.
• Ensure compliance with all welding procedures and applicable codes.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices and compliance with safety requirements.
• Support Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Quality for process improvements.
• Ensure accurate labor charging and maintain departmental documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in welding preferred.
• Minimum 5 years’ welding experience required; previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or regulated manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of welding processes such as GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and related fabrication methods.
• Understanding of weld symbols, blueprints, and fabrication drawings.
• Familiarity with welding codes and standards (AWS, NAVSEA, ASME, or similar) preferred.
• Understanding of quality systems and documentation requirements.
• Experience with ERP or manufacturing systems preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Problem-solving and decision-making capability.
• Ability to motivate and develop employees.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
