Overview

X-Ray Welders are skilled structural welders responsible for fabricating welds without defects for radiographic X-ray inspection. The role involves welding on Sub safe/Hull integrity joints according to specific procedures and quality standards, contributing to the delivery of advanced nuclear-powered submarines.

Responsibilities

  • Weld in all welding positions and on various joint designs
  • Gouging of full penetration welds
  • Ensure high quality, speed, and efficiency in welding
  • Meet internal policy standards and UT / RT acceptance criteria
  • Use pneumatic tools such as grinders, burr tools, and wire brushes
  • Pre-heat equipment and perform carbon/arc gouging
  • Verify weld size using weld gauges
  • Complete a RT welding test and a six-month probationary period

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience
  • 6 plus months of structural MIG welding experience or current EB structural welding qualifications-mig pulse/spray
  • Knowledge of welding procedures and various types of welding equipment
  • Ability to work in horizontal, vertical, overhead, and flat positions
  • Ability to work at heights and in tightly confined spaces
  • Available to work all shifts
  • Possess basic hand tools
  • Ability to perform some lifting, climbing, and bending
