Overview
X-Ray Welders are skilled structural welders responsible for fabricating welds without defects for radiographic X-ray inspection. The role involves welding on Sub safe/Hull integrity joints according to specific procedures and quality standards, contributing to the delivery of advanced nuclear-powered submarines.
Responsibilities
- Weld in all welding positions and on various joint designs
- Gouging of full penetration welds
- Ensure high quality, speed, and efficiency in welding
- Meet internal policy standards and UT / RT acceptance criteria
- Use pneumatic tools such as grinders, burr tools, and wire brushes
- Pre-heat equipment and perform carbon/arc gouging
- Verify weld size using weld gauges
- Complete a RT welding test and a six-month probationary period
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience
- 6 plus months of structural MIG welding experience or current EB structural welding qualifications-mig pulse/spray
- Knowledge of welding procedures and various types of welding equipment
- Ability to work in horizontal, vertical, overhead, and flat positions
- Ability to work at heights and in tightly confined spaces
- Available to work all shifts
- Possess basic hand tools
- Ability to perform some lifting, climbing, and bending
