Overview

This position involves journey-level work in installing and repairing water distribution and wastewater collection facilities. The role includes maintenance and installation for water systems, with responsibilities requiring skilled mechanical work and minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Lays water mains and installs hydrants, valves, fittings, clamps, and sleeves.
  • Operates heavy equipment, including boring and jacking equipment, trenchers, and backhoes.
  • Reads water main blueprints to assist in selecting proper fittings and materials.
  • Performs maintenance on materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Cuts, bevels, threads pipes, and caulks joints.
  • Performs helper/acting foreman duties for nighttime callout.
  • Participates in training to support departmental or City initiatives.
  • May work overtime or alternate hours as necessary.
  • Performs emergency repairs after normal working hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of pipe fitting experience for Pipefitter II, with one year in water systems.
  • Must possess and maintain a Class 'C' Water Distribution License for Pipefitter II.
  • Valid driver's license and telephone number.
  • Ability to obtain Class 'A' CDL within six months for Pipefitter I.
  • Ability to obtain Class 'C' Water Distribution License within 18 months for Pipefitter I.
