Overview

This position is with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center, specifically in the Pipe Shop under Facilities Management Service (FMS). The role primarily involves pipefitting and plumbing duties for the repair and maintenance of building piping systems.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs high- and low-pressure steam and condensate piping systems.
• Repairs plumbing systems and equipment such as steam heating systems and domestic hot water heaters.
• Performs miscellaneous welding repairs using electric arc welding and oxy-acetylene equipment.
• Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out piping systems.
• Operates emergency repair truck at various locations.
• Determines placement and elevation for steam generators and pumps.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains heat exchangers and control valves.
• Interprets building plans and applies shop mathematics for layout.

Requirements

• Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and in hard-to-reach places.
• Physical capability to handle, lift, and carry equipment over 50 pounds.
• Experience working in various environmental conditions including dirty, dusty, and hot or cold areas.
• Knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, including respirators.

• Work Schedule: 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; compressed tour available.
