Chalfant, a division of the OBO Bettermann Group, is a trusted leader in high-quality cable tray and cable management systems, proudly made in the USA. The Welder is responsible for performing MIG welding operations to fabricate and assemble metal components used in cable tray systems, ensuring high-quality welds that meet company and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate MIG welding equipment using prescribed methods and procedures.
  • Build weldments through manual layout and manual surface preparation when required.
  • Read and interpret welding blueprints, work orders, and welding symbols.
  • Position parts to be joined using fixtures, clamps, and other holding devices.
  • Use measuring instruments and gauges to verify that parts meet specifications.
  • Perform post-weld clean-up, including grinding, polishing, and finishing.
  • Identify and correct welding defects or inconsistencies.
  • Maintain welding equipment and report any malfunctions.
  • Set up straight section jigs as to width of tray and rung spacing.
  • Weld all basic types of ladder-type tray.
  • Set up welding guns for steel, stainless steel, and aluminum parts.
  • Maintain quality and production standards.
  • Communicate all malfunctions of equipment and errors.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain a clean work area.

What you'll be running

TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
