Overview

The Senior Welding Specialist leads the review and approval of fabrication process documents to ensure compliance with contract requirements. This role involves collaboration with engineers and managing project budgets while providing technical expertise in welding procedures and quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the review and approval of fabrication process documents.
  • Approve project budget estimates and manage expenditures.
  • Verify material and welding procedure submittals for compliance.
  • Evaluate Supplier Welding Procedure and provide technical feedback.
  • Respond to technical inquiries and adjust priorities as needed.
  • Assess welding procedures for suitability and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Develop inspection instructions and implement procedures to improve quality.
  • Establish guidelines for Shop Surveillance Plans and Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings with suppliers and clients.
  • Validate and approve inspection logs and schedules.
  • Present submittal review reports to project teams and clients.
  • Communicate resolutions for outstanding actions.
  • Support documentation and resolution of Nonconformance Reports.
  • Lead presentations on lessons learned and implement solutions.
  • Problem solve quality issues with clients and suppliers.
  • Lead training for the supplier quality team.
  • Apply API 582 guidelines in welding procedure reviews.
  • Collaborate with other Welding Engineers and Supplier Quality Specialists.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in welding engineering technology or related field with 7 years of experience, or an associate degree with 9 years of experience, or a High School Diploma/GED with 11 years of experience in quality control.
  • Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Sections II, V & IX.
  • Experience with welding and materials inspection on large construction projects.
  • Experience in qualification and application of weld procedures and nondestructive examination.
  • Strong understanding of material toughness and Charpy impact requirements.
  • Ability to review Supplier's Welding Procedure and material test reports.
  • Expertise in industry standards and codes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic AI tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • NDT qualifications such as AWS, CWI, SCWI preferred.
  • Coating/Painting qualifications preferred.
  • Boiler & Pressure Vessel ASME Authorized Inspector preferred.
  • API certifications preferred.
  • ISO 9001:2008 approved Lead Auditor preferred.
  • HSSE qualifications preferred.
