Overview

Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh Company, is a product development firm in motorsports, defense, and mobility industries, offering engineering and low-volume production solutions. The Mid-Level Welder/Fabricator will work individually or with a small team to execute customer projects across various industries, requiring skills in metal fabrication and welding.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient in both MIG and TIG welding of thin gauge aluminum, stainless steel, and steel.
  • Operate hand tools and a variety of machines in the shop.
  • Operate a hydraulic brake press.
  • Understand and interpret complicated blueprints.
  • Interface with other departments to accomplish tasks.
  • Communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Apply all applicable safety requirements to comply with regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years welding/layout experience.
  • Fabricator skills including complicated layouts and shrinkage calculations.
  • Proficiency typically acquired through 5+ years of related experience in Welding/Fabrication.
  • Ability to rig and move heavy structures.
  • Possess own tools appropriate to the job.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Additional Information

  • 40 hour work week with overtime paid as worked.
  • 6:30 am work start time.
  • Must be flexible with schedule to accommodate fixed deadlines.
  • Some travel may be required.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
