Overview

Chart Industries is seeking production welders to play a key role in the manufacturing process of their products. The position requires performing complex welding operations on various types of metals using different welding techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Mig welding on stainless steel and mild steel parts.
  • Layout, assemble, and weld according to drawings and work instructions.
  • Judge the type and gauge of steel to be welded and make adjustments as needed.
  • Position welded metal parts on fixtures and use jigs and clamps as necessary.
  • Perform complete welding and finishing operations for unit repair.
  • Use handling devices in conjunction with welding tasks.
  • Maintain required documentation accurately.
  • Utilize visual examination of welds for defects and verify weld sizes.
  • Observe and practice safety procedures and participate in safety programs.
  • Train and instruct other welders.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Previous experience performing Mig and/or Tig Welding required.
  • Pipe Welding experience is required or able to obtain within certification period.
  • Pipe Fitting experience is preferred.
  • Print reading course including welding symbols desired.
  • Ability to comprehend complex blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Experience with air-arc gouging and operation of plasma cutting machines.
  • Ability to accurately measure using devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Successful ability to pass company welder certification tests within 4 weeks of start.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical welding diploma required in lieu of welding experience.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
