Overview

SpaceX is developing technologies to enable human life on Mars, and as a Mechanical Technician (Facilities), you will help design, build, activate, and maintain advanced manufacturing facilities while solving complex problems in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, managers, and customers to maintain systems in peak operating condition.
  • Develop and update detailed work instructions for proper equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain and repair HVAC support equipment on facilities systems.
  • Perform ductwork modifications, brazing, soldering, and evacuation & charging of refrigerants.
  • Assemble, install, repair, and maintain pipes, fittings, heating, water, and drainage systems.
  • Perform hands-on shop work and on-site disassembly, inspection, reporting, cleaning, troubleshooting, reassembly, and testing of pumps and other mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure work and materials comply with manufacturer specifications.
  • Read and interpret schematics for assembly, repair, and reassembly.
  • Perform failure assessments and day-to-day safety inspections.
  • Adjust and fabricate mechanical parts using hand and machine tools.
  • Present information on equipment maintenance statuses for critical facilities.
  • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, pallet jacks, boom lifts, work trucks, and overhead cranes.
  • Open, track, and resolve electronic work tickets on SpaceX systems.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
  • Follow and ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, regulations, and laws.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • 3+ years of professional experience working with HVAC, plumbing, pneumatic, mechanical, or electrical systems.
  • Knowledge in HVAC, plumbing, electrical safety, pneumatic principles, and mechanical fasteners.
  • Technical certification, journeyman, or master in HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, or electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of high-pressure gas, flammable gas, and refrigeration gases.
  • Professional experience maintaining HEPA filters and AHU filtration systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems down to the component level.
  • Familiar with commercial building codes.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand technical language in specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good attitude, willingness to learn, flexibility, and self-starter.
  • Consistent record of punctual schedule adherence.
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment.

Additional Information

  • Location: Hawthorne, CA.
  • Must be able to work one of the following shifts: First shift: 5AM - 3:30PM PT or Second shift: 3PM - 1:30AM PT.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Work hours depend on site priorities and may require overtime hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Periodic work in extreme outdoor environments.
  • Able to work at elevated heights (up to 150 feet).
  • Must have a valid CA driver’s license.
