Overview

Frontera Space, an aerospace-focused startup founded by Tom Markusic, is seeking a Structural Steel Welder to join the Fabrication Department within their Production Division. The role involves structural welding, fabrication, fit-up, and assembly of steel hardware and production infrastructure for aerospace development and manufacturing programs.

Responsibilities

• Perform SMAW/stick welding and MIG/GMAW on carbon and structural steel according to approved procedures.
• Fabricate and weld structural steel assemblies, frames, supports, and other welded components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols.
• Perform material layout, cutting, preparation, fit-up, alignment, tacking, welding, and post-weld finishing.
• Set up and operate welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, and other fabrication tools.
• Perform structural welds in multiple positions as required.
• Verify material type, dimensions, joint preparation, and weld parameters before and during fabrication.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy and control weld distortion during fabrication.
• Produce welds that meet structural workmanship standards and engineering requirements.
• Inspect completed work for weld defects and overall workmanship.
• Perform grinding, blending, repair welding, and rework as necessary.
• Support weld inspection and non-destructive inspection activities.
• Maintain accurate production documentation and inspection records.
• Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production personnel to resolve issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve fabrication methods and production efficiency.
• Maintain welding equipment and fabrication tools in a safe condition.
• Follow all company safety procedures and manufacturing practices.
