Overview

This position as a Lead Structural Engineer 1 at Sargent & Lundy involves applying knowledge of materials and structural design to power transmission modifications and upgrades. The role includes direct client interaction and offers a hybrid work arrangement with a generous relocation package.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, and design.
  • Work on power transmission modifications and upgrades.
  • Create calculations, design documents, and specifications.
  • Investigate and solve structural engineering issues.
  • Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames and concrete members.
  • Develop integrated structural designs and supporting calculations.
  • Interface directly with clients and communicate technical information.
  • Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
  • Perform independent reviews of work by others.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and suppliers.
  • Review existing facilities and propose upgrades.
  • Travel for design reviews and field verification.

Requirements

  • BSCE or MSCE from an ABET-approved program.
  • 10 or more years of experience as a structural engineer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Experience in writing support documentation for calculations.
  • Must complete assignments within budget and schedule.
  • Technically knowledgeable in structural engineering applications.
  • Experience with design techniques and tools.
  • Proficiency in MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, and RISA Floor.
  • Familiarity with design codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
