Overview

The Maintenance Technician position involves working with maintenance and contracted services personnel at a college campus to ensure optimal operating conditions of school facilities, grounds, and properties. The role requires frequent travel between East Chicago, Crown Point, and Gary.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate maintenance and upkeep of physical plant facilities during assigned projects.
  • Ensure safety of facilities during projects and promote good safety practices.
  • Work in an organized manner with attention to detail.
  • Assist in developing specifications for contracted services like painting and landscaping.
  • Perform routine maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment, including troubleshooting and minor repairs.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics and operate power tools.
  • Coordinate with room scheduler for planned maintenance projects.
  • Assist with emergency repairs to buildings and mechanical equipment.
  • Assist in structural repairs and renovations to buildings.
  • Perform outside grounds maintenance including snow removal and landscaping.
  • Maintain computer control systems for HVAC and security.
  • Respond to emergency requests.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree preferred.
  • Technical expertise in electrical, heating/air, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Previous facilities maintenance or comparable construction experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Familiarity with building, plumbing, and electrical codes.
  • Ability to plan and estimate time and materials.
  • Willingness to pursue additional training as necessary.
