Job Description

Overview

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is seeking a Transportation Maintenance Technician I or II to maintain highways and transportation infrastructure in the Fort Worth District. This role involves performing routine maintenance and operations while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts.
  • Performs basic welding as needed.
  • Provides support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites.
  • Assists stranded motorists as required.
  • Controls traffic by placing and gathering cones, warning signs, and barricades.
  • Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way, performs roadway repairs, and erects and repairs guard rails.
  • Operates complex heavy equipment such as motor graders and large excavators.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Inspects traffic control devices for compliance with specifications.
  • Sands or cleans bridges and roads during emergency situations.

Requirements

  • No education required.
  • TMT I = No experience required.
  • TMT II = 1 year experience in transportation engineering support or related work.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Safety Impact Certificate mandatory for TMT I.
  • Commercial Class 'A' Driver's License with 'N' Endorsement required for TMT II.

Additional Information

  • Position located at 1208 S. Main Street, Jacksboro, TX 76458.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment.
