Georgia Tech is a top-ranked public research university located in Atlanta, committed to academic excellence and diversity. The Pipefitter V role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical piping systems essential to the institute's operations.
Responsibilities
- Install, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair mechanical piping systems and related equipment across campus facilities.
- Read, interpret, and work from architectural and mechanical drawings, piping schematics, and technical documentation.
- Perform hot work, including welding and oxyacetylene cutting, producing certifiable welds.
- Inspect, test, and maintain piping control systems and associated instrumentation; conduct pressure testing and inspections to ensure system integrity and compliance.
- Operate and maintain machine tools, maintenance equipment, motor vehicles, hand/power tools, and light/heavy equipment as needed.
- Collaborate with engineering, custodial, and other trades staff to support construction, renovations, and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with institutional safety protocols, building codes, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of work orders, materials, and inspections.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or Vocational School Diploma; vocational training or a degree may be preferred or required.
- Eight or more years of relevant experience.
- Completion of a pipefitting apprenticeship is preferred.
- Associate's degree in a related field, or equivalent is preferred.
- Valid Georgia Driver's License.
- Knowledge of walking, climbing, lifting (minimum 50 lbs), welding, grinding, oxy/acetylene cutting, and driving.
