Overview

At DNOW, we believe our associates are the best in the business. The Welder is responsible for completing production work safely and responsibly, performing complex and precision welding techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex and precision welding techniques.
  • Designs, fabricates, joins and/or repairs space age metals, scientific and research components using various welding techniques.
  • Welds parts and sub-assemblies to specifications and/or prints.
  • Welds in controlled atmospheres, plasma welds and cuts.
  • Welds high vacuum and high pressure systems.
  • Heat treats and thermal sprays equipment, fixtures and various types of metal objects and structures.
  • Operates drill presses, power saws, grinders, positioners and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools.
  • Analyzes plans, drawings, work samples, specifications and work orders to determine work requirements, sequence of welding assignments, and personnel needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and/or equivalent.
  • Four years of welding experience; or completion of an accredited four-year welder's training program; or completion of an accredited two-year welder's training program and two years of welding experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
  • Skill in the fabrication, joining and repair of a variety of metal objects, equipment, fixtures and structures.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques including oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, MIG, TIG, controlled atmosphere, and plasma cutting.
  • Knowledge of non-destructive inspection techniques.
  • Skill in heat treating and thermal spraying.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
