Overview

At Blue Origin, we are developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. The Orbital Tube Welder role involves applying technical expertise and leadership skills to impact safe human spaceflight at the Huntsville Engine Production Facility.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and install hydraulic, pneumatic and propellant tubing.
  • Work with engineers to review design concepts and provide feedback for ease of assembly.
  • Review, edit and follow work instructions for assembly tasks.
  • Plan and communicate assembly steps for complex mechanical installations.
  • Safely work with hazardous systems containing chemicals and/or high pressure.
  • Hand fit and tack weld parts together with TIG welding as required.
  • Recommend tooling designs needed to fixture parts for welding.
  • Visually inspect welds and verify quality utilizing borescopes and other inspection methods.
  • Develop weld schedules for various systems and components.
  • Setup, operate, and maintain orbital tube welding equipment.
  • Cut and prepare all tubing and fittings used in welding operation.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to use standard mechanical tools and fabrication shop equipment.
  • Capable of using precision tools to accurately measure tight tolerances.
  • Ability to read and understand aerospace 2D/3D drawings.
  • Experience with various thin wall alloys such as 316 SS, Inco 625, CRES 21-6-9, Monel, Titanium.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders and stairs, and work in small, restricted areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.
