Overview

Zachry Group is currently accepting applications for a Piping Engineer I for their Downers Grove Design Center office location. This position offers an opportunity to engage in interesting and challenging 3D design projects.

Responsibilities

• Design piping systems and process equipment utilizing 3D software.
• Build various types and complexities of equipment and piping layouts in a 3D environment from 2D documentation.
• Navigate laser scan files to support real-time field information while designing in 3D.
• Create construction documents for welding and fabricating piping systems.
• Develop understanding of industry practices in refining, oil and gas, midstream gas processing, chemical, power, and food and beverage.
• Understand basic mechanical and chemical properties of construction materials.
• Understand physical loads and material support limits.
• Understand basic fabrication and installation methods to optimize design solutions.
• Understand different technologies and design criteria for valves and inline piping components.
• Read and navigate Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and other process flow documents.
• Support development of packages to coordinate with Stress Engineering.
• Support 3D model review meetings with construction and Client Operations personnel.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
• CAD experience preferred.
• 3D Design software experience recommended.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft TEAMS, Outlook, and Adobe/Bluebeam.
• Experience with physical mechanical equipment preferred.
• Strong communication skills for effective coordination on projects.
• Availability for field assignments involving travel to industrial sites.
• Highly motivated with ability to work in an interactive team environment.
• Self-starter with initiative and ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare design calculations and technical documents.
• Willingness to learn and work on a variety of tasks within multiple industries.
