Overview

A Schuff Steel Production Welder is responsible for welding a variety of materials for complex and high-profile projects in the commercial building, bridge, and industrial sectors. This role requires proficiency in various welding techniques and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Follows applicable welding procedures (AWS, AISC)
  • Welds on the ground level, above ground and below ground, in any required position
  • Chips, peens, and grinds material to prepare for welding or finish
  • Welds structural, bridge, and industrial materials such as plates, sheets, girders, and tanks
  • Performs gouging and scarfing as needed
  • Capable of passing welding tests in accordance with AWS D1.1
  • Transports material by a crane as needed
  • Keeps work area organized and clean
  • Performs other routine duties per management direction
  • Adheres to and follows all safety rules and PPE requirements

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 12 months of stable work experience
  • Must pass required weld test
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Cert in AWS D1.1 weld test
