Overview

The Pipefitter performs duties at the journeyman Maintenance Mechanic Pipefitter level, requiring knowledge of plumbing, steam fitting, and mechanical skills. The role involves working on various systems including steam distribution, water supply, and mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Receive work assignments from the supervisor through work orders, oral instructions, building plans, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Work on steam piping, valves, steam straps, and steam powered equipment.
  • Install and perform maintenance on all plumbing fixtures and equipment.
  • Work with all types of piping and valves including copper, galvanized, black, cast iron, PVC, ABS, glass, and fuse seal.
  • Perform rough-in, set and finish, and soft and silver solders.
  • Assemble and repair wheel chairs, beds, stands, lockers, and other equipment.
  • Conduct welding repairs using electric arc and oxyacetylene methods.
  • Utilize power operated equipment such as pipe threading machines, drill presses, and grinders.
  • Process invoices with strong credit card skills.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections of systems and components.
  • Plan and lay out proposed work for new installations or corrections.
  • Perform minor Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning work.
  • Perform minor electrical work including replacing ballasts and fixtures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of plumbing, steam fitting, and mechanical skills.
  • Ability to climb ladders and crawl in cramped spaces.
  • Agility to work in awkward positions and extreme temperatures.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Physical requirements include climbing, crawling, stooping, and working in extreme temperatures.
