Overview

SpaceX is actively developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. The TIG Welder will work with an elite team to build the primary airframe of the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles at the SpaceX South Texas build site.

Responsibilities

  • Perform GTAW class A welds and fabricate metal components to specifications.
  • Collaborate with lead welder to assess weld procedures and materials.
  • Analyze engineering drawings to plan welding operations.
  • Continuously improve operations and streamline work processes.
  • Weld assembly and fabrication of various structures and assemblies.
  • Communicate effectively with management and engineering staff.
  • Modify, repair, assemble, and install launch vehicles.
  • Check work for completeness per drawings after each operation.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials properly.
  • Install and assemble tooling and machinery for tank structure.
  • Set up safety equipment and work platforms at elevation.
  • Operate general shop equipment and vehicles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 1+ years of experience with TIG welding in a manufacturing environment or a welding certificate from an accredited program within the last two years.
  • 10+ years of experience in TIG welding with materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, Inconel, aluminum, and titanium (preferred).
  • Highly proficient in tube cutting, grinding, and fabrication.
  • Experience in class A welds.
  • Certifications with AWS D17.1 and D1.2.
  • Knowledge of DC welding techniques and engineering requirements.
  • Familiarity with standard tools and practices of the welding trade.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Experience with overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to adapt to changing roles in a high-paced environment.

Additional Information

  • Role requires passing a weld test per AWS D17.1.
  • Must be available for all shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding job duties.
  • Candidate must be capable of using an air purifying respirator and operating heavy equipment.
