Overview

At Black & Veatch, employee-owners work to make critical resources accessible to all, focusing on health, happiness, and professional growth. The Welder - Combo Pipe position involves planning, laying out, welding, installing, and repairing various types of pipes and tubular products.

Responsibilities

  • Use hand and power tools to measure, cut, assemble, weld, and install structural steel components.
  • Weld components in various positions including flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead.
  • Clamp, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts for required configurations.
  • Set up welding machines and adjust gas flow and pressure for desired flames.
  • Pass quality audits for on-site welds continuously.
  • Participate in safety processes and programs.
  • Engage with the work team to achieve zero injuries.
  • Report hazards and participate in safety discussions.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to helpers and laborers.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications, including diagrams and drawings.

Requirements

  • At least four years of pipe welding experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Must pass welding tests on multiple procedures and codes.
  • Strong working knowledge of the combo pipe welder craft and various welding codes.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Must have all necessary tools as per the Pipe Welder tool list.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Project welding certificate through OCI Quality.
  • Multiple years of experience as a journeyman preferred.
  • Certifications in NCCER Welding, NCCER Pipefitting, or NCCER Rigger are preferred.
