Overview
The Estimator is responsible for leading and supporting a team in the development of project estimates and proposals for Construction, EPC, and Bid build projects, requiring thorough knowledge of industrial projects and the ability to perform quantity take-offs. This position is located in the Houston, TX office.
Responsibilities

- Leads and supports estimating processes from start to finish.
- Assures the quality and accuracy of each team member’s work.
- Ensures that estimates follow the Chart of Accounts structure and develops Work Breakdown Structure.
- Discerns take-off elements of the work accurately and assigns them to appropriate database items.
- Demonstrates understanding of the Proposal and Project Life Cycle processes.
- Ensures that Scope and engineering deliverables align with estimate standards.
- Performs detailed reviews with vendors to ensure pricing compliance.
- Assists in the solicitation of subcontract and vendor proposals.
- Identifies deficiencies in drawings and generates pricing to address variances.
- Understands the need for evaluating the team’s scope clarifications.
- Develops quantity-based estimates from partial information.
- Develops piping estimates based on partial information.
- Develops mechanical estimates based on various documents.
- Monitors project scope to ensure all trades are coordinated.
- Ensures estimates allow take-offs and pricing to be traced back to defining documents.
- Prepares bridging documents to show historical cost changes.
- Participates in constructability reviews and cost-saving discussions.
- Organizes the estimate to meet project needs.
- Facilitates understanding of the estimate by team members.
- Estimates requirements for craft support labor, staff, and equipment.
- Assures lifting plans and equipment selection are completed by a competent person.
- Assists in developing a detailed resource-loaded preliminary proposal schedule.
- Understands principles of project cash flow.
- Develops risk ranging analysis for project elements.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- 4 years of field and/or office experience including roles such as Estimator or Project Controls.
- Familiar with construction work and terminology.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to visualize the finished product from provided documents.
- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects independently.
- Good mathematical comprehension.
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of operating processes at industrial facilities.
- Solid technical skills with understanding of various classifications of estimates.
- Self-motivated team player willing to mentor others.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Sage estimating and project scheduling software.
