Overview
The Mechanical Engineer position involves performing comprehensive design tasks for complex mechanical engineering assignments, requiring extensive experience and the application of advanced engineering techniques. The role emphasizes collaboration, technical guidance, and adherence to design standards while ensuring project efficiency and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Utilize department design and drafting standards.
- Assist on-site during startup.
- Conduct engineering activities such as stress analysis and material procurement specifications.
- Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies for engineering tasks.
- Produce preliminary designs and material take-offs for project estimates.
- Create detail design calculations and sketches for construction materials.
- Assist the drafting group with layout and detailing problems.
- Consult with design leaders from other disciplines for project completion.
- Review vendor and discipline drawings for mechanical input.
- Produce efficient designs focusing on construction materials and client expectations.
- Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and compliance.
- Advise senior engineers on identified design or scope changes.
- Assist in developing scopes, drawings, and specifications for procurement.
- Develop construction specifications.
- Review fabrication drawings for conformance to engineering specifications.
- Perform fieldwork to gather data and provide construction support.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
- Communicate scope and design changes promptly.
- Coordinate work activities with teammates and discipline leads.
- Apply advanced engineering techniques to complex designs.
- Estimate and schedule professional service hours and assess mechanical work quality.
- Identify and develop work sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
- 6+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge of design standards and codes.
- Knowledge and application of materials and specifications.
- Experience in developing piping material and procurement specifications.
- Knowledge of good design practices for sizing piping systems.
- Experience with flexibility and stress analysis of piping systems.
- Ability to specify criteria for and select piping specialty items.
- Experience in designing complex process and utility systems.
- Knowledge of manual valve sizing and HVAC system design codes.
- Ability to estimate mechanical/piping construction quantities.
- Knowledge of engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
