Overview

The Sheet Metal Mechanic position at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System involves constructing, installing, and repairing HVAC systems and other structures within the medical center.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex sheet metal work, including designing and installing unconventional ductwork.
  • Develop patterns for items with irregular angles and curves using radial-line and parallel-line development.
  • Use shop mathematics to calculate irregular cuts, angles, and pitch.
  • Independently develop plans and templates for constructing and installing irregular items and systems.
  • Evaluate structural damage and replace or install new sheet metal systems.
  • Work with various metals, including stainless steel, copper, and aluminum alloys.
  • Operate complex hand and power machines for sheet metal work.
  • Use advanced fastening methods for sheet metal assembly.
  • Accurately measure airflow and determine duct sizes.
  • Read blueprints and perform material takeoffs for ordering.
