Overview

The Caster Metallurgist at Steel Dynamics is responsible for a variety of activities throughout the production process, focusing on maximizing safety, quality, and productivity within the casting team.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate metallurgy activities with fellow metallurgists, engineers, and shift supervisors.
  • Work with operators to teach steelmaking processes and provide technical support.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of process and operator feedback.
  • Provide continuous product and process improvement.
  • Evaluate new process technologies.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and optimize cost.
  • Assist with coordination of ISO/IATF activities for the department.
  • Develop corrective and preventative actions.
  • Become proficient with ELC, JSA, QWI and Quality systems.
  • Support and develop safety improvements within the process.

Requirements

  • BS degree or equivalent in Metallurgy, Material Science or related engineering field.
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
