Overview

DCAS's mission is to make city government work for all New Yorkers by managing public buildings and providing critical resources to City agencies. The Steam Fitter position involves installing, maintaining, and repairing various mechanical systems within DCAS-managed buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair piping, controls, and equipment for various systems including heating, air conditioning, and fire suppression.
  • Install boilers, feed water, vacuum and condensate equipment, and fuel oil piping.
  • Lay out work from plans, specifications, and sketches.
  • Supervise the work of Steam Fitter Helpers.
  • Perform emergency repairs on a 24-hour basis.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Steam Fitter, or two and a half years of such experience plus relevant education or training.
  • Possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York for certain agencies.
  • Qualified persons with a disability may apply through the 55-a Program.

Additional Information

  • New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
  • City employees in certain titles may reside in specific counties after two years of service.
