Overview

The Elevator Mechanic position at MTA Metro-North Railroad involves repairing and maintaining hydraulic and traction elevators and related equipment to ensure passenger safety. Metro-North Railroad is a key commuter railroad serving millions of customers in New York and Connecticut, dedicated to providing safe and reliable transit services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on elevators and all related equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools and testing devices.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair problems with elevator systems.
  • Connect car frames to counterweights.
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical components to identify malfunctions.
  • Install, repair, and maintain ropes and cables.
  • Comply with safety regulations and codes.
  • Clean elevator cars and related components.
  • Maintain and repair hydraulic elevator components.
  • Assist external contractors during inspections.
  • Document all maintenance and repair work.
  • Participate in mandatory training to maintain elevator skills.
  • Participate in job safety briefings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid New York State Dept. of Labor Elevator Mechanic license.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • Ability to use multimeter, tachometer, and light tester.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Interpersonal skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces and on ladders.
  • Knowledge of operating and safety rules.

  • This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicology testing.
  • Not Telework eligible.
