Overview
The Elevator Mechanic position at MTA Metro-North Railroad involves repairing and maintaining hydraulic and traction elevators and related equipment to ensure passenger safety. Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs on elevators and all related equipment.
- Use hand and power tools and testing devices.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair problems with elevator systems.
- Connect car frames to counterweights.
- Troubleshoot electromechanical components to identify malfunctions.
- Install, repair, and maintain ropes and cables.
- Comply with safety regulations and codes.
- Clean elevator cars and related components.
- Maintain and repair hydraulic elevator components.
- Assist external contractors during inspections.
- Document all maintenance and repair work.
- Participate in mandatory training to maintain elevator skills.
- Participate in job safety briefings.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid New York State Dept. of Labor Elevator Mechanic license.
- Valid New York State Driver’s License or equivalent.
- Ability to use multimeter, tachometer, and light tester.
- Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Interpersonal skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in tight spaces and on ladders.
- Knowledge of operating and safety rules.
