Georgia Tech is a top-ranked public research university in Atlanta, committed to academic excellence and diversity. The Instrument Maker II position involves performing modifications, maintenance, and repair of laboratory instrumentation and equipment, while interacting with students and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain machinery such as milling machines and lathes.
  • Modify, repair, and rebuild laboratory equipment according to design specifications.
  • Fabricate and assemble equipment.
  • Instruct students in the safe operation of shop equipment.
  • Provide guidance to lower level Instrument Makers.
  • Confer with shop customers regarding work requirements.
  • Provide input to the design of equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven to eight years of job-related experience.
  • Journey level skills in fabrication techniques, shop math, reading prints, sheet metal work, equipment repair, materials identification, welding, and use of machine and hand tools.
  • Ability to follow basic safety precautions, lift objects up to 25 lbs, and stand for extended periods.
