Overview

Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment, currently hiring a Senior Welder for their Southeast Houston manufacturing facility. The role requires advanced welding skills and responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, conducting quality inspections, and training junior welders.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints and set up welding equipment.
• Conduct quality inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Produce a variety of sheet metal weldments according to mechanical engineered drawings.
• Determine weld locations and meet size and length requirements within specified tolerances.
• Grind welds and perform sheet metal buffing to meet cosmetic specifications.
• Deliver finished products to customers and record transactions.
• Perform light maintenance on welding and cutting equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area.
• Participate in ongoing safety training.

Requirements

• Minimum of grammar school education.
• Basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.
• Ability to read a tape measure and ruler, including conversions.
• Ability to meet Jaeger Vision test requirements.
• Ability to read mechanical engineered drawings and welding symbols.
• At least 2 years of Short-Circuit GMAW (MIG) welding experience with HRPO sheet metal.
• Ability to fine-tune voltage and wire feed settings for quality results.
• Ability to pass an AWS D1.3 Structural Sheet Metal Welding Test.
• Ability to work with small hand tools, clamps, and grinders.
• Ability to perform light maintenance on welding equipment.
