Overview

We are seeking an experienced Traveling Pipefitter / Combo Welder to work primarily on planned shutdowns at commercial and industrial laundry facilities. This role combines certified TIG and Stick welding with mechanical pipefitting skills, and you will be part of a small, fast-moving crew responsible for safely completing work inside tight outage windows.

Responsibilities

  • Perform code-quality TIG and Stick welds on carbon and stainless steel piping and components.
  • Read and interpret drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and spool sheets.
  • Lay out, measure, cut, prep, and fit-up of pipe.
  • Install valves, strainers, supports, hangers, and specialties.
  • Assist with pressure tests and leak checks as required.
  • Rig, signal, and assist with setting washers, dryers, tanks, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Safely use rigging gear and work with cranes, forklifts, hoists, and gantries.
  • Work effectively in shutdown/outage environments, including nights and weekends.
  • Demo and remove existing piping/equipment, followed by installation of new systems.
  • Coordinate with other trades and plant personnel to minimize downtime.
  • Follow all site and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in JSAs, pre-task plans, and daily safety meetings.
  • Keep work areas organized and support site housekeeping.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a combo welder and mechanical pipefitter in industrial or commercial settings.
  • Certified TIG and Stick welder (must be able to pass weld tests).
  • Strong pipefitting skills: layout, fit-up, installation of supports and valves, reading drawings.
  • Experience with equipment rigging and moving in plant/industrial environments.
  • Willing and able to travel regularly and work shutdown schedules.
  • Able to work at heights, in tight areas, and in hot/noisy environments.
  • Valid driver’s license and Real ID/Passport.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for TIG and Stick work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
