Overview

As a Compressed Air Technician at SpaceX, you will be part of the critical infrastructure team responsible for designing, building, activating, and maintaining advanced manufacturing facilities. This role requires autonomy in solving complex problems and managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment, ultimately contributing to SpaceX's mission of enabling human life on Mars.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, managers, and customers to maintain systems in peak operating condition.
• Develop and update detailed work instructions for proper equipment preventative maintenance.
• Maintain and repair HVAC support equipment on facilities systems.
• Perform ductwork modifications, brazing, soldering, and evacuation & charging of refrigerants.
• Assemble, install, repair, and maintain pipes, fittings, heating, water, and drainage systems.
• Conduct hands-on shop work and on-site disassembly, inspection, and testing of mechanical equipment.
• Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications for work and materials.
• Read and interpret schematics for assembly and repair.
• Perform failure assessments and day-to-day safety inspections.
• Adjust and fabricate mechanical parts using hand and machine tools.
• Present equipment maintenance statuses for critical facilities.
• Operate various equipment including forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Open, track, and resolve electronic work tickets on SpaceX systems.
• Take on additional responsibilities and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
• Ensure site compliance with applicable building codes and regulations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
• 3+ years of professional experience with HVAC, plumbing, pneumatic, mechanical, or electrical systems.
• Knowledge in HVAC, plumbing, electrical safety, pneumatic principles, and rotating machinery.
• Technical certification, journeyman, or master in HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, or electrical systems preferred.
• Knowledge of high-pressure gas, flammable gas, and refrigeration gases.
• Experience maintaining HEPA filters and AHU filtration systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems down to the component level.
• Familiarity with commercial building codes.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications and schematics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional Information

• Position based in Hawthorne, CA.
• Must be able to work one of the following shifts: 5AM - 3:30PM PT or 3PM - 1:30AM PT.
• Able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Work hours may require overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Periodic work in extreme outdoor environments.
• Able to work at elevated heights up to 150 feet.
• Must have a valid CA driver’s license.
