Overview

WSP has an exciting career opportunity for an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join their Pump Stations and Pipelines team in various locations. This role involves supporting technical staff and project managers in the planning, design, analysis, and implementation of hydraulic, mechanical, and pipeline systems on various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing engineering data from various sources.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and engineering analyses for various fluid systems.
  • Assist with development and review of hydraulic models and pump station designs.
  • Support the design and selection of pipelines, pumps, valves, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables including design criteria and technical specifications.
  • Evaluate alternative design concepts and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate with various disciplines to support multidisciplinary project execution.
  • Write technical reports summarizing engineering analyses and project outcomes.
  • Assist with risk identification, constructability reviews, and engineering studies.
  • Support field investigations and construction support assignments as required.
  • Assist with proposal preparation and engineering planning activities.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, designers, clients, and project teams.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Familiarity with fluid mechanics and hydraulic system design principles.
  • Experience developing engineering calculations for pipe sizing and pressure loss.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling software such as AFT Fathom or similar.
  • Familiarity with pipeline stress analysis software such as CAESAR II or equivalent.
  • Understanding of piping systems, pumps, valves, and fluid conveyance infrastructure.
  • Experience preparing and interpreting engineering documents and technical reports.
  • Strong analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and engineering calculation development.
  • Experience with discipline-specific software such as AutoCAD or similar.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and conduct policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
