Overview
Terramac is seeking a Design Engineer – Fabrication & Mobile Equipment to be based in Sugar Grove, IL. This role involves designing and improving machine systems while collaborating with various teams to ensure product functionality and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate technical information for controlled areas and assist with technical inquiries.
- Design, package, and release sub-system level assemblies to meet machine level requirements.
- Identify and select reliable and cost-effective components.
- Review customer CAD data and update CAD models and drawings as necessary.
- Anticipate potential hazards and design safety into all products and systems.
- Educate and train others on technical items and assembly/maintenance of sub-systems.
- Perform tests and simulations to validate designs before production.
- Communicate design decisions and constraints within the engineering team.
- Translate customer drawings and specifications into fabrication requirements.
- Use SolidWorks for design, packaging, and detailing of systems and components.
- Develop new product designs, specifications, BOMs, drawings, and schematics.
- Establish specifications for purchased components and review sourcing requests.
- Support production and quality teams during manufacturing and testing.
- Provide customer technical support and process application project requests.
- Identify root causes and corrective actions for design-related issues.
- Prepare and maintain technical drawings for fabricated sheet metal parts.
- Maintain organized electronic storage of technical drawings and revision history.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
- 3+ years of engineering experience in design, analysis, and testing.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal design principles.
- Experience with Creo and SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to read schematics and translate customer requirements into documentation.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 10%.
- Ability to work independently with moderate guidance.
