Overview

The City of Alabaster is seeking a skilled and dependable Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic to join their Environmental Services team. This position involves performing preventive maintenance and repairs on wastewater treatment machinery and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on wastewater treatment equipment and machinery.
• Diagnose, maintain, and repair pumps, engines, motors, generators, valves, tanks, chlorinators, controls, and other mechanical and electrical components.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems; dismantle, repair, and reassemble electric motors; rewire electrical panels; replace parts; and repack pumps.
• Install and upgrade mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Calibrate, troubleshoot, and program programmable logic controllers (PLCs), flow meters, pressure devices, collectors, and related instrumentation.
• Test machinery, equipment, and parts to ensure proper operation.
• Identify and report equipment problems and coordinate outside repairs when necessary.
• Perform welding and fabrication work associated with equipment repairs and maintenance.
• Cut and shape metal using plasma cutters, torches, chop saws, grinders, and other tools.
• Operate heavy machinery, equipment, and tools, including mobile cranes, forklifts, generators, air compressors, pumps, blowers, drill presses, welders, saws, and diagnostic instruments.
• Use mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance tools.
• Inspect vehicles, equipment, and tools and perform routine maintenance to keep them in safe, operable condition.
• Fuel vehicles and equipment as needed.
• Attend and participate in required safety meetings.
• Follow all safety procedures and help maintain a safe working environment for employees and the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience in wastewater plant operations, waste management, industrial maintenance, or a closely related field.
• Valid Alabama Commercial Driver’s License, Class B or higher.
• Valid Alabama Grade II Wastewater Operator Certification.
• Ability to maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout employment.
