EWI is a leader in developing technologies that bridge R&D and manufacturing, providing high-end research and development services for over 35 years. The Robotic Arc Welding Technician role involves supporting R&D projects focused on arc welding processes and working with advanced robotic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Apply expertise in robotic arc welding equipment and manual welding processes.
  • Prepare, program, and operate industrial robots according to project specifications.
  • Perform tasks in support of application development and research projects.
  • Support project planning by estimating level-of-effort for proposed projects.
  • Interact with customers through demonstrations and presentations as needed.
  • Utilize CAD tools to create prototype tools for project completion.
  • Assemble designed tools, fixtures, and enhancements.
  • Continuously develop knowledge in automated arc welding processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of project work and test results.
  • Support equipment maintenance and calibration efforts.
  • Strive for high-quality standards and meet production schedules.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas.
  • Adhere to safety programs and procedures.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, program, and operate industrial robotic welding systems.
  • Experience developing welding procedures for robotic arc welding processes.
  • Ability to perform manual welding operations including GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and SMAW.
  • Working knowledge of other arc welding processes including SAW and PAW.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of electrical controls related to machine tools.
  • Ability to use CAD software for developing basic drawings.
  • Robotic offline programming experience is favorable.
  • Previous Arc-DED or WAAM experience is favorable.
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle changing priorities.
  • Positive, solutions-oriented attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Team-oriented with strong collaboration abilities.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for Stick and Flux-Core work. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. Flux-cored (FCAW) runs a hollow wire filled with flux, combining MIG-like deposition rates with the outdoor tolerance of stick. It is the workhorse on heavy structural steel and shipbuilding, where thick sections and long welds reward speed.
