Overview

The New Motor is a custom architectural millwork and metal fabrication studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn, specializing in high-end custom millwork and metalwork. They are seeking a skilled freelance Metal Fabricator to work on a project-by-project basis, offering steady work without a full-time commitment.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate custom architectural and display metalwork in steel, aluminum, stainless, and brass
  • Perform MIG and TIG welding with clean, finish-quality results
  • Cut, grind, form, drill, and assemble to tight tolerances
  • Work from shop drawings and cut lists
  • Build jigs and fixtures and find smart ways to make tricky parts
  • Prep pieces for finishing and assist with on-site installation when needed

Requirements

  • Strong, proven metal fabrication experience, particularly in custom, architectural, or display work
  • Excellent MIG and TIG welding skills with clean welds
  • Comfortable reading shop drawings and taking accurate measurements
  • Self-sufficient and able to take a scope and run with it
  • Reliable and available according to project timelines
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs and work on your feet in a shop environment

What you'll be running

It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
