Overview

Westinghouse Electric Company is at the forefront of nuclear energy innovation, seeking a Welder Technician based in Chaponnay, France. The role involves assembly, installation, and modification of equipment in various challenging environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assembly, installation, and modification of equipment according to operational procedures.
  • Understand equipment constraints such as temperature, pressure, and mechanical forces.
  • Prepare and verify welding equipment and ensure calibration and qualifications are valid.
  • Execute welding tasks following established procedures, including preparation and cleanliness of parts.
  • Check compliance of welding parameters and visually inspect completed welds.
  • Document intervention details, including tracking sheets and parameter records.

Requirements

  • General or technical training (CAP/BEP or BAC Pro in welding).
  • At least 2 years of experience in the industry, particularly in piping or boiler making, with certifications.
  • English proficiency is an asset.
  • Driving license B required.
  • No medical disqualifications in categories A and B (DATR).
  • Nuclear certifications (SCN, CSQ, RP) are a plus.
  • Crane operator license and CACES are a plus.
  • Proficiency in manual TIG welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum, as well as stick welding.

Additional Information

  • Position requires mobility for assignments lasting from a few weeks to several months, primarily in France and occasionally abroad.
  • Work may include weekends, holidays, night shifts, and on-call duties.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for TIG and Stick work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
