Overview

The A Class Structural Welder position involves welding various components and structures while adhering to safety, quality, and schedule requirements. The role requires a high level of craftsmanship and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Weld a variety of configurations including single-pass and multi-pass fillets in all positions.
  • Weld multi-pass full penetration joint details for all joint and material thickness configurations.
  • Instruct and mentor less-skilled welders as assigned.
  • Maintain safe work practices and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Austal USA standards and project specifications.
  • Maintain housekeeping and keep the worksite organized.
  • Monitor the working environment for compliance with quality and safety regulations.
  • Assist welders, fitters, apprentices, and trades assistants with daily tasks.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year as a B-Class Welder at Austal or 2 years of GMAW MIG welding experience.
  • Ability to pass A Class skills evaluation test.
  • Demonstrated ability to weld fillets for material thicknesses 4mm-25mm.
  • Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to produce consistent quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and job specifications.
  • Ability to maintain and perform routine preventive maintenance on welding equipment.
  • Good listening and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to work shifts or overtime as required.
