Overview

Proteus Steel is a structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication company serving various construction projects throughout the Southeast. They are seeking a skilled Welder/Steel Fabricator to join their growing team in Ridgeland, South Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and weld structural and miscellaneous steel components.
• Work from shop drawings and fabrication details to lay out, fit, assemble, and weld steel.
• Read shop drawings and lay out material accurately.
• Measure, cut, drill, grind, fit, weld, and inspect completed work for quality.
• Travel to project sites for field welding and installation as needed.

Requirements

• Previous structural steel or miscellaneous steel fabrication experience preferred.
• 7+ years of experience is a plus.
• Strong welding skills with proficiency in MIG and Stick/Arc welding.
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and weld symbols.
• Experience laying out, fitting, and assembling fabricated steel components.
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform fabrication layout.
• Experience cutting, grinding, drilling, and preparing steel for fabrication.
• Familiarity with structural shapes including wide-flange beams, HSS, angles, channels, and plate.
• Ability to safely operate welding equipment and common fabrication tools.
• AWS or equivalent welding certifications are preferred but not required.
• Willingness to obtain or maintain required welding certifications.
• TIG welding experience is a plus but not required.
• Ability to lift and handle steel materials and work in both shop and field conditions.
• Ability to work at heights when field work requires it.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality fabrication.
• Dependable, safety-minded, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
