Job Description

Overview

TDI, a part of Unison and a GE Aerospace Company, has been a leader in turbine powered start systems and turbine air motors for decades. The Aerospace TIG Welder position involves welding components and performing manufacturing operations at the Dayton, OH site.

Responsibilities

  • Welds together metal components as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, or manufacturing operations sheet (MOS).
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions and examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Manually applies filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • Cleans weld joint or work piece and prepares parts for welding.
  • Positions or clamps work pieces together or assembles them in a jig or fixture.
  • May tack assemblies together and verify fixture calibration.
  • Maintains eQuals requirements and uses standard shop measuring devices.
  • Performs basic housekeeping of cell (5S) and reviews work instructions and specifications.
  • Ensures all company paperwork is filled out accurately and fully understands blueprints.
  • Identifies revision levels and produces error-free products.
  • Meets production goals and works to established Lean Manufacturing guidelines.
  • Understands safety and machining hazards and has a basic understanding of welding processes.
  • Willing to undergo on-the-job training to obtain CVP certification within first 6 months.
  • Complies with all GE policies and keeps team informed of work progress.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Successful completion of a TIG welding training course.
  • Ability and willingness to weld complex components and outside of home cell.
  • Capability and willingness to work efficiently and provide training to other welders.
  • Prior experience welding aluminum is preferred.
  • Must be able to read safety rules and understand specifications.
  • Able to analyze and interpret technical procedures, blueprints, and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from team members.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic operations.

Additional Information

  • Wages $24.90 per hour + 10% Shift Differential for 3rd Shift.
  • Must be able to stand at least 6 to 8 hours a day and work with upper body extremities.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds frequently and 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Exposure to moving high-speed machinery and/or mechanical parts.
  • Employee will be required to use approved chemicals and may be exposed to dust, fumes, or smoke.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
