Overview

This is an opportunity to join an established, global plastics manufacturer with more than 50 years in the industry, located in Humble, TX. The Injection Molding Tooling Repair Technician will work hands-on with injection molds to ensure they are safe, reliable, and ready for production, directly impacting the efficiency of a high-volume manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on plastic injection molds.
  • Tear down, clean, inspect, repair, and rebuild molds for production use.
  • Diagnose tooling issues contributing to downtime, defects, or inconsistent part quality.
  • Repair, replace, adjust, or restore worn and damaged mold components.
  • Inspect cavities, cores, inserts, slides, lifters, ejector systems, and related tooling components.
  • Troubleshoot and service hot runner systems, heaters, thermocouples, and associated components.
  • Inspect cooling circuits, water lines, fittings, seals, and O-rings for leaks, restrictions, or damage.
  • Perform mold spotting, fitting, polishing, welding, and other bench repair work.
  • Respond to urgent tooling breakdowns and assist with repairs needed to restore production quickly.
  • Identify repeat mold failures and help develop permanent corrective solutions.
  • Read and interpret mold drawings, prints, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and height gauges.
  • Operate approved toolroom equipment such as grinders, drill presses, polishing equipment, and related machinery.
  • Support mold modifications, tooling improvements, and engineering changes.
  • Participate in new mold trials, troubleshooting, and tooling validation.
  • Assist with root-cause investigations involving mold performance and recurring failures.
  • Complete scheduled mold PM activities accurately and on time.
  • Document mold repairs, replacement components, tooling conditions, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair histories.
  • Identify critical spare components needed to reduce extended downtime.
  • Help maintain an organized inventory of frequently used mold repair components.

Requirements

  • Previous hands-on experience with injection mold repair, mold maintenance, toolmaking, or a closely related technical field.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble injection molds.
  • Experience using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and dimensional specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to independently diagnose tooling problems while working effectively with a larger manufacturing team.
  • Ability to respond quickly when tooling problems impact production.

Additional Information

  • Contract to hire position.
  • Full-time, on-site position in Humble, TX.
  • Monday–Friday daytime schedule: 7:00 AM–4:30 PM.
