Overview
Virgin Galactic is seeking a highly motivated Lead Manufacturing Technician to support its Vehicle and Rocket Motor Manufacturing teams. This hands-on role requires great attention to detail and excellent people skills to manage risks in human spaceflight through design and assembly efforts.
Responsibilities
- Assist with providing technical guidance to shop floor teammates
- Work closely with Supervisor to ensure daily milestones are met and forecast completion dates
- Adhere to directions and guidelines from Supervisor to support collaboration across teams
- Fabricate and assemble composite parts and sub-assemblies of varying complexities
- Safely utilize shop tools and machinery including drills and die grinders
- Trim, bag, and mix a variety of materials, composites, chemicals, and resins
- Understand and apply adhesives and mixing ratios to tight tolerances
- Work on complex manufacturing assignments requiring judgement in resolving issues
- Follow instructions precisely to complete complex assemblies accurately
- Utilize computer skills to support manufacturing of products
- Encourage and provide development and training opportunities for technicians
- Work collaboratively to achieve goals and complete assigned tasks
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum five years of experience as a technician in aerospace or high-reliability field
- Two years of leading and mentoring others in technical tasks and projects
- Experience with aircraft fabrication or similar production fabrication and assembly
- Understanding of multiple types of fasteners
- Hands-on experience in a precision yet manual manufacturing setting preferred
- Knowledge of proper drill speeds and feeds for materials being worked
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and models
- Willing to be clean shaven to wear a full-face respirator
- Ability to support scheduled work shifts, extended hours, and weekends if necessary
Additional Information
- Work Schedule: 4/10 Onsite Monday through Thursday Day Shift (6:00am – 4:30pm)
- Potential Future Work Schedules include night and weekend shifts
