Overview

Virgin Galactic is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Technician to support our Vehicle and Rocket Motor Manufacturing teams. This hands-on role requires great attention to detail and excellent people skills to overcome challenges in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Cut composite fabrics and rubbers, laying them up by hand in molds to fabricate spaceship rocket motor and launch vehicle parts.
  • Assemble tools for injection molding parts used in manufacturing.
  • Use weighing scales to properly ratio resins to hardener and track material weights.
  • Measure and place stations on tooling mold surfaces to locate composite fabric plies per engineering drawings.
  • Vacuum bag parts per specifications.
  • Read Engineering Orders, Manufacturing work instructions, blueprints, and Service Repair Manuals.
  • Operate curing ovens/autoclave and monitor cycle functions.
  • Hand sand composite surfaces.
  • Dry fit components.
  • Hand finish parts to fit, including hand trimming.
  • Perform wet layup using adhesives and fabrics.
  • Fix and locate structures.
  • Use equipment such as gantry cranes to locate components.
  • Operate forklifts to gather and place parts.
  • Adhere to assembly instructions for complex project assemblies.
  • Prepare surfaces utilizing curing temperatures and cleanliness.
  • Co-cure and perform secondary bonding.
  • Collaborate across teams to complete projects.
  • Practice safety behavior and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) awareness/prevention.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a technician in an aerospace or equivalent high-reliability field.
  • Experience with hands-on aircraft manufacturing with composite and/or metallic airframes.
  • Experience with aircraft fabrication or similar production fabrication and assembly required.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer applications to follow manufacturing work instructions and work with ERP systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and/or models.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: 4/10 Onsite Monday through Thursday Day Shift (6:00am – 4:30pm).
  • Potential Future Work Schedules: 4/10 Onsite Monday through Thursday Night Shift (4:00pm – 2:30am) and 4/10 Onsite Thursday through Sunday Day Shift (6:00am – 4:30pm).
