Overview

FloVision is a remote-first startup focused on improving the food supply chain through computer vision and machine learning. The Field Engineer role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware systems for computer vision products, with a strong emphasis on field service and installations.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites to install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Perform on-site mechanical and electrical maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Build strong customer relationships and represent FloVision professionally.
  • Turn recurring field problems into practical hardware improvements.
  • Create and modify mechanical and full-system designs using SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including service records and schematics.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams and vendors for equipment preparation.
  • Identify and implement internal process improvements using AI and digital tools.
  • Lead and support R&D projects, building test rigs and prototypes.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Chicago workshop space.
  • Maintain safety procedures and uphold Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least four years of experience in automation, controls, field engineering, or a related industrial environment.
  • Hands-on mechanical and electrical skills, including confidence with common tools.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC and HMI systems.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement practical fixes.
  • Strong computer literacy and willingness to learn AI-enabled tools.
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to represent FloVision professionally.
  • Self-managing and organized with the ability to balance multiple projects.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for field work and ability to travel approximately 75%.
