Overview

The Structural Welder position at Austin Industrial in Baytown, TX involves joining steel components or metal plates using various welding processes and following blueprints or instructions. The role requires physical strength and the ability to perform various welding tasks while adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
  • Unite pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas and turn valves to release mixture.
  • Reach expected temperature, size, and color of flame by burning torch and adjusting flow of gas and air.
  • Preheat work pieces for welding or curving using torch.
  • Fill holes or correct mistakes in lead pieces and make bulges thin and curves in metal work pieces.
  • Manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • Clean or degrease weld joint or workplace using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
  • Remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag and spatter using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder or power chipper.
  • Climb up ladders or work on scaffolds to take apart textures.
  • Choose place of weld based on type, thickness, area, and expected temperature of metal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • No minimum education requirements.
  • 2-4 years of Journeyman level experience.
  • Applicants must be legally able to work for ANY employer in the United States.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
