Overview
The Water/Wastewater Systems Technician operates, maintains, repairs, and services various water and wastewater systems at DFW Airport under general supervision. This role involves working with multiple systems including the Pre-Treatment Plant, Reverse Osmosis Facility, and irrigation systems.
Responsibilities
- Operates, maintains, repairs and services pumps, motors, compressors, and other components of water/wastewater systems.
- Installs, repairs and replaces water and sewer mains; joins and caulks pipe; repairs valves and hydrants.
- Excavates and backfills trenches and culverts using backhoe and hand tools.
- Operates vacuum truck to remove debris from storm sewer system.
- Exercises all valves in the system; makes repairs as necessary.
- Inspects and cleans manholes; manually removes line-clogging debris.
- Reads and interprets data from charts, gauges and dials; makes adjustments or repairs on equipment.
- Inspects temporary water service connections for compliance.
- Performs daily chlorine residual test; maintains safety equipment.
- Reads water meters and records readings.
- Performs periodic inspections of storage tanks.
- May inspect the work of outside contractors and enforce compliance with regulations.
- Cleans and paints pump and lift station structures and maintains grounds.
- Maintains records and prepares reports.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs Board owned irrigation systems.
Requirements
- Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water or wastewater systems.
- Possession of a valid Class B Commercial driver’s license, or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater systems.
- Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, sketches and diagrams.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to detect, diagnose and correct defects and malfunctions in systems.
Additional Information
- This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position.
- Applicants will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and submit to random screenings.
- Possession of a Class C Water Works or Class I Wastewater Collection System operator certificate is required within 1 year of employment.
- Must possess a good private driving record.
