A robotics and defense technology business, developing electric motors and actuators for drones and autonomous systems, is in need of a Mechanical Design Engineer on a contract-to-hire basis.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical designs from customer requirements through to manufacture.
- Perform hand calculations and FEA to assess structural and thermal performance.
- Produce detailed SolidWorks models, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Apply GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to mechanical components and assemblies.
- Support prototyping, hardware testing and design validation.
- Work closely with manufacturing and test engineers to resolve issues and improve designs.
Requirements
- Experience taking mechanical hardware from concept through design, build and validation.
- Strong engineering fundamentals, including stress, strain and hand calculations.
- Hands-on SolidWorks experience.
- Practical knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis and design for manufacture.
- Experience using FEA and validating results against calculations or physical testing.
- Motor, actuator, gearbox, mechanism or rotating hardware experience would be beneficial.
- Ability to take ownership of engineering problems within a small, multidisciplinary team.
