This profession rewards individuals who enjoy technical craftsmanship and fabrication work.
At roughly $20/hr, this posting comes in about 23% below the $26/hr median for welding jobs across Ohio, where the middle half runs $24–$30/hr across 72 postings with published pay. Put another way, it pays more than about 15% of the comparable postings we have wage data for. That gap is worth raising directly — in a market this size there is normally room to negotiate toward the median, particularly if you already hold the certifications the posting asks for.

The most active employers in Ohio at the moment, by number of open welding reqs, are Aerotek (7), Pro Mechanical Services (5), and Kadant Black Clawson LLC (4). Volume like that usually means either a genuine expansion or a staffing agency working several client sites — worth knowing which before you apply.
Within Ohio, the best-paying metros we track by median hourly rate are Columbus at $28/hr and Cincinnati at $28/hr. If you can relocate or commute, that spread is worth factoring in.
This posting calls for MIG, Stick, and Flux-Core work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
