Overview
A Structural Welder raises, places, and unites girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks. Responsibilities
- Read and understand technical drawings for welding and installation.
- Design, layout, and fabricate metal frameworks for buildings.
- Use power saws to cut metal materials into desired shapes and sizes.
- Check angles and gap allowances using precision measuring instruments.
- Operate electric cranes and forklifts to transport workpieces.
- Conduct periodic preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Employ knowledge of metallurgy and geometry for welding processes.
- Read and interpret spool sheets, schematics, and structural diagrams.
- Carry out post-welding activities such as grinding and cleaning.
- Inspect and evaluate welds for defects and specifications compliance.
- Apply welding processes such as GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW.
- Troubleshoot structures to identify and repair welding defects.
- Set equipment to weld in various positions.
- Demonstrate Yates Core Values and Principles.
- Follow Yates Code of Conduct.
- Refuse unsafe work and follow established safety procedures.
- Report incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
- Wear and maintain personal PPE.
- Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
- Participate in workplace inspections and required training.
