Overview
This temporary position involves setting up, operating, and tending welding machines for metal products and components. The role requires reading blueprints and inspecting completed work to ensure quality and conformance to specifications.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, or tend welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies.
- Load or feed work pieces into welding machines to join or bond components.
- Give directions to other workers regarding machine set-up and use.
- Correct problems by adjusting controls or by stopping machines and opening holding devices.
- Inspect, measure, or test completed metal work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Record operational information on specified production reports.
- Perform basic MIG welding of galvanized steel.
- Interpret blueprints, work orders, or production schedules to determine product or job instructions or specifications.
- Assemble, align, and clamp work pieces into holding fixtures to bond, heat-treat, or solder fabricated metal components.
- Implement universal standards and specs to meet building codes and legal requirements.
- Use precision measuring tools to inspect grooves and angles.
- Conduct tests to check weld quality, including hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate and/or industrial experience.
- Ability to read blueprints and perform basic math.
- Prior experience with MIG welding and processes.
- Familiar with grinding and cutting equipment.
